Just interesting who is stalking this blog of mine. Please take a minute and leave a note about yourself in the comments. Thank you!
I'm keeping this blog mostly as my personal works collection for now, but I would really like it to be a good place for discussions or question - answer stuff.
So, please, if you have something to say what you really don't like here - feel free.

ReplyDeleteкрутейшие работы!
Spasibo!
DeleteHey, Sergey !
ReplyDeleteWell, my name's Nishan and I am from Malaysia . I am a concept artist, currently working in the local game industry ( athough I am still a beginner ) and you are one of the many artists that inspire me to get better at what I do everyday. I think the first painting of yours that pulled me in was the ' Mermaid ' painting. I hope to continue seeing you grow as an artist. Thanks !
Hey Nishan, thank you very much for your response! I'm wishing you the best with achieving your goals in art field.
DeleteAhoi Mr. Kolesov. I came to follow your blog just recently when I stumbled upon one of your pieces on CGhub. Since then big fan. I'm a graphic artist/designer working in Cologne, Germany. Not so much concept art or painting stuff in my portfolio right now since I try to shift from design work to illustration/concept work. But some stuff u can find on my blog or at http://stonejackit.cghub.com/ Enjoying your work. Very inspiring stuff with a good amount of humor. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHey. Thank you. I looked through your works and it seems like the transition from design to illustration is going successfully! In my taste you got too much pure black and pure white colors in your light/shadow work. It is not a black color makes shadow to be a shadow, and the same for the white color and light. :) Otherwise you are doing good! Good luck with that.
DeleteWow, thanx Sergey. It's always helpfull to get usefull critique from a pro. I'll try to keep that in mind. Thanx a lot! :D
DeleteYou are welcome
DeleteI'm a big fan as well. I think your colors and compositions are genius. The rendering is fantastic with a good mix of rough and refined. Not to mention the creativity of the subjects. I find a lot in your work I wish I could do. Keep it coming. Moladiets.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much David. I think that those few years I've spent being interested in 3d gave me a lot in terms of further understanding the basics of light and perspective. Though my years spent in art school were priceless anyway )
DeleteHello, I'm your creepy stalker! And I really love your blog. Absolutely amazing works.
ReplyDeleteHey creepy stalker, thank you :)
DeleteHi Sergey, I'm an artist at Bethesda Game Studios. I love your artwork. If you're looking for discussion, I'd love to hear what you think about when you are planning a painting - what do you focus on before you start? How do you refine the idea of the painting?
ReplyDeleteRealy good question! I'll to observe this discussion
DeleteHi Lukas, seems like we are kind of from one family since Im working in Arkane Studios :) Glad to have your question here.
DeleteWell, usually it takes really some time to get sort of clear vision of a painting before start. I'd say I'm always thinking on what might touch the feelings of audience. Yes, when I'm looking for a topic, I like to have some slice of current people's mind state at the moment (following the news, watching movies, following social networks etc.). I think it is important to face the viewers - they are my primary aim) Then, when I got the blurry/raw idea i turn it to myself, like pushing itthrough my vision and experience. Thinking like an author, I can add or change something in order to make my point of view on that. Then if it comes clear, I start to work. So, to summarize, imagine we got train crash somewhere, people died, and I'm like a journalist should go there and make a review for the people. But personally I really cannot stand the awfulness of tragedy and suffering, so I have a problem here, I still should bring the idea of tragedy to the audience, but should do it through my own perception.
Hope it is clear somehow :) Anyway you are welcome to ask further. Thanks
Great answer, thank you.
DeleteThanks for your answer, it's much appreciated.

ReplyDeleteHey man I really enjoy your work :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI´ve added this blog into my RSS quite recently, anyway I really like the way you are expressing your ideas.
I´m trying to improve my painting skills so I´m looking for some inspiration all the time.
I have also a blog (still without any comment) so I understand (maybe) how you feel and how much important is to know that somewhere out is some related (?) soul...
So, don´t worry and just keep going...the whole universe is with you... :)
Cheers
Thanks a lot! Yes, I've started the blog cause it is pretty calm place, and not a big mess of likes and random comments like on facebook for instance. But now I'm curious is there is anyone following my blog updates except me alone? :) Could be very good place for some really good way of sharing thoughts.
DeleteI actually just discovered your blog within the last week. In case you're interested in the trail, I went from browsing thru everything on INPRNT to finding your profile there, then liked what I saw and followed the link to your blog. As I went far enough back in your blog history I realized I'd seen your art before somewhere and liked it, but I dont know where I encountered it. The most memorable piece was a man shooting a blowdart with very puffed-up cheeks, I recognized it instantly. :P
ReplyDeleteBack to your question, I like everything I've seen. Though now that I know you're interested in answering questions, I'll be sure to ask a few. :)
Thank you for detailed story. Yeah I do remember this sketch with a hunter) Feel free to ask, yes. Thank you.
DeleteLong time stalker here. I know I'm in for a treat whenever I see a post from you in my RSS feed, so keep doing what you're doing 'cause it's great. Cheers man!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Was looking through your blog. You are doing really good art there! Now I'm following your updates :)
DeleteHi, it's keivan from Iran, you can read my name like "K1", it's closer to the persian pronunciation we use here. :P
ReplyDeletei'm a young Digital Painting apprentice and i'm following your blog by "Bloglovin" and enjoy your artworks. you are a Popular digital painter in Iran's Digital painting Community and we learn from your artworks. thanks for those great things yo create, it's so inspiring. and thanks for making this space for talking to you. :)
Hey, nice to hear that I'm known in Iran! Thank you very much for your kind words.
DeleteI'm an beginning illustrator from luxembourg. I've been following you since i first saw your work for dishonored. Every painting you do is inspiring me to work harder on my own works.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHello, I am an illustrator from Ireland, although no one pays me so maybe I'm not, I dunno, anyway, I hate the fact that you are class and I stalk in the hopes of being inspired or someday seeing you crash and burn so I can feel better about myself and invite you to join my club of non payed illustrators :)
ReplyDeleteHah, thanks. It is interesting how long you are an illustrator. I was not paid for years when I started with cg.
DeleteHaha, well, who knows, maybe one day. But I wish you to become better than me and then I will be crashed :) Thanks
DeleteHi, I'm an aspiring illustrator in Florida of the US. I'm learning a lot from your streams but always seem to miss them and see recordings :(
ReplyDeleteIf you ever have time I'd really appreciate any input you have on my work (here: http://andnowtheworldismine.blogspot.com/ ) I'm currently working on but havent posted yet, studies of rendering and materials.
Hey, thank you! Well, to see recorded videos is the same as when I'm going draw online. I'm not responding to comments or talking something there while live streaming :)
DeleteI like a lot your line drawings! Looks very nice and interesting. Keep it up and good luck!
Hey Sergey,
ReplyDeleteI don't do digital art for a living, but I'm teaching myself the ropes in my spare time (something I wish I had more of). My dream is to do concept art one day, but that's more like a "pipe dream". I find myself looking at your art at least once a day and getting lost in your paintings - they're amazing. Everything about them, the colors, the brushstrokes, the anatomy. Thanks for sharing all of your work, it's really inspiring and I learn a lot from them. I can't wait for more.
Yo, William, a New Zealand illustrator locked in here. Keep up the good stuff man!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHello there Mr Peleng,
ReplyDeleteYour art is an inspiration, I have no idea what kind of path someone has to take to get the skills that you developed. Once I asked you about how you learned and you mentioned something around 9 ears of study, if I remember correctly. Huge inspiration.
I'm from Brazil, and want to be a good artist and sometimes don't don't the path... and what I should study... to able to do illustrations from my imagination. I have a lot of story about myself, but probably is too much to tell here.... hehe
If you wanna see my stuff you can find it on DA http://lucasparolin.deviantart.com/ or cghub http://lucas-ps.cghub.com/
Thank you so much for being such a great inspiration... and keep doing art please!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sergey, I'm watching you for a long time from the shadows and I use your brushes for my artwork.
ReplyDeleteI love watch your videos on livestream and I've learned a lot from them.
I'm expecting for more tricks and see much more artworks from you. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Sergey !
ReplyDeleteI'm a french aspiring concept artist too, and like so many others I've been inspired by your work for a few years now I think ! The first work that really struck me was that space station illustration you did ! I'm kind of ashamed I didn't know you worked for Arkane though... My stalking skills have worn off over the years I guess ahah...
This is a weird coincidence because I'm looking for an internship right now, and I actually applied at Arkane Studio earlier today ! Knowing that you work here just make me wish they'd take me EVEN MORE !!
Anywa, have a good day, and maybe we'll see each other one day if I'm lucky enough...

ReplyDeleteHi Sergey! I'm an aspiring Canadian illustrator. Started following your work on conceptart.org back in early 2012 or so. I love the compositions and colour in your images and also really enjoy watching your livestreams. Thanks for sharing all of this and keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHey Peleng,
ReplyDeleteI'm an aspiring illustrator and you're one of my biggest inspirations. Your sense of the absurd is definitive!
I also enjoy the way you paint.
About the blog format, I much prefer it to facebook. It might not be as wide reaching but its a quieter place for the appreciation of the work.
Keep paintin~
Hi Peleng
ReplyDeleteMaybe you rebember me. A years before we were mailing together, because some Czech project. Now I can see you are still on the high level! Your work is amazing, gentle and wild in the same time. That approach i love it.
Blog is very powerful... take a look on mine to http://www.javoraj.blogspot.cz/
Where are you now, at France?
You have a unique vision of the world, I love your stuff :)
ReplyDeleteBonjour Sergey!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a concept artist, working at Ubisoft Paris from time to time since 2010.
I've been a huge fan of your work since the time of the speed painting dailies on cgtalk, I was not only amazed by your painting and design skills but you also had great ideas that would transcend the subject.
I kept following what you do and never get tired of it. Keep up the great work!

ReplyDeleteHi Sergey: I like your work a great deal. I wonder if you will put up more music you listen to along with artwork? (Like the Nov.26 post "A ride") Would be great to learn more about you.

ReplyDeleteI'm a student in game art in Paris, France. I like digital painting and illustration, especially the kind that tells a story. That's why I like your style ! I love your works, and this blog is in my favorites !
hope things go well for you, keep painting please !
Hello Mr. Sergey,
ReplyDeleteI've been your fan since several months or maybe a year ago when one of my friend shared your painting on facebook. I followed your facebook since then and also I often visit your blog when I stuck with my study to get inspirations. Also, I've been using your brush set as well as one of my main brushes, thanks a lot for sharing it!
Anyway, my name is Rizky. I'm still doing a lot of self study for now since I'm not graduated from art related major. Hope I can catch up your skill and become a professional like you someday Mr. Sergey.
Thanks :)
Love your work :D! Discovered it on cghub at first, and been a follower since.
ReplyDeleteMe, I'm a Design and Product Realisation student (basically industrial design with a bit more inventor work in the mix).
I draw characters and portraits as a hobby :), I like pretty much anykind of design, Fashion, architecture, concept art...which is why it makes it hard to choose a career path. I basically need to try any of it ^^
If you're curious :) I've got a blog http://progressdiary.tumblr.com/
Would love the feedback :D
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm just an illustrator in (self) training. Found you on livestream one day ages ago and liked your stuff so I followed your blog :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sergey, Really like your art. Keep posting! =)

ReplyDeleteHello Sergey, so many stalkers! I'm Kyra, an aspiring games artist working in QC in the UK, I like how textural your work is (and even more if its classical fantasy like orcs or goblins) http://kyrahills.carbonmade.com/
ReplyDeleteman, I LOVE YOUR ART!!
ReplyDeleteyou are truly an inspiration.
is it weird that your work, though sometimes melancholic and dark, gives me a feeling of peace and relaxation?
I can stare at the paintings for hours, thank you :)
I used to be an active user on ConceptArt.org where I stumbled across your sketchbook. I liked your concepts and now I lurk around here pretty often. c:
ReplyDelete(Aww fuck, I was writing a thesis here in the coments and lost it. -_-' Ok, let's resume..)
ReplyDeleteHi Sergey!!
I cannot believe you feel alone in the blog, you have an horde of fans and followers who would go to mordor with only a blink of your eye. :)
I love all your work, in every aspect of it. Light, color, composition, originality.. your work is magical, fresh and different. I love how clean is your mind, and how you try so much different things in every new piece. Amazing!
A couple of abstract and general questions, if you don't mind (don't complain, you posted first!):
1. Which areas of the painting do you feel you need (or would like) to improve?
2. Are you very analitical, or you just follow the feelings you have while painting? I'd say the latter, but in some videos (Drone Moth, for example), there are moments where you go quite slow, like planning every stroke..
3. Do you do some kind of exercise to empty your mind before start painting? because man, I have my brain so polluted with so many references, visual information and shit..
4. Is your ctrl+z broken?
Anyway, thanks for reading, and for showing your delicatessen to the world!
Diego

ReplyDeleteHello Sergey. I want to thank you for uploading the process videos, the insight int your work has helped me to solve a lot of problems I face when painting. I 'm also very curios on how you choose your color palettes? and how do you study light, some good tips on these kind of things like values would be greatly appreciated :).
Superfriend S3 NTheme "Hunter"?

ReplyDeleteAnother fan here. You've got some lovely elastic forms and dramatic viewing angles, color palettes excellent as well. I do some digital painting as well, but am predominantly a 3D artist. I'll keep up with this blog for inspiration and perhaps I'll do a model off of one of your paintings sometime. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm beginner photoshop artist and I wonder if you could tell me which brushes do you use and what is your default settings for photoshop and the new file. Please reply :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sergey. Just happened to know your work today by from an inspirational video Sinix did on youtube and I'm absolutely amazed. I have a question about something that is kind of bothering me. Do you ever get a mental block where you fell like you cant produce anything and you lack creativity? And if you do, what's your method to get unstuck? Thank you so much. Your blog is going to the good links bar on my blog.
ReplyDeleteHey man,
ReplyDeleteI am a student in the UK, doing illustration but looking to get into concept art.
Your work has been unbelievably inspirational to me. I love your looser paintings, they always feel more alive and energetic. From your work, I am slowly learning how to consider my brush strokes by looking at your work, watching your livestream and sped up videos on your blog.
Keep it up man, really great stuff.

Hi Sergey
ReplyDeleteAlso a big stalker here. Right this moment I'm at your blog because I'm trying to paint a winter scene in a school yard, and thought I'd check out your blog for some color inspiration. Most of all I stalk you because of your motifs, there's so much more than dragons, robots and big boobs on your blog, and your "classical" way of painting is super awesome!
Thank you!!

Hello, I dabble in sketching and some painting, but nothing big. I was watching a youtube tutorial (sinixdesign) and your art work was recommended among other artists for inspiration, and I got to say it is dead on. Pretty interesting you work you have here. Good stuff! :)

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteDirector and game designer. Found you via positive words from Anthony Jones. Wonderful work.
Thank you for putting this blog together, I really like spending time looking at the paintings and watching the videos. The work is beautiful and your images seem to command me to imagine a story as soon as i look at them. they are digital maybe in the concept design realm, but they have a traditional painted aesthetic. Really good job man. Thank you again. Mauro

ReplyDeleteJean-Michel Trauscht from Belgium actually in Brazil, Illustrator and cg artist. Keep going!
Writer/musician. Looking through your backlog, mostly for inspiring desktop backgrounds. I really enjoy the vivid, flat planes of color and outlandish subject matter of a lot of your work. It's often very sharp, yet the images are vague enough to make me feel that there's a lot happening behind and beyond them.
ReplyDeleteFlorian Häckh, Illustrator myself and huge fan. Don't know if this is still maintained, the last post is 2 years old. Questions: how does one get good at being so loose and sketchy?
